Who we are
Akiba Mashinani Trust (AMT) is a Kenyan-based social organization that works directly with marginalized urban and peri-urban communities as well as those most at risk of locked out of mainstream economic and social development programmes. Established in 2007, we offer technical, financial and organizational support to co-create innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of vulnerable groups. By linking such initiatives to relevant policy institutions and decision-making processes, AMT also seeks to help ensure that governance processes become more responsive to the needs of the most vulnerable.
One of AMT’s notable strengths lies in its ability to engage with diverse partners and build alliances across disciplines and sectors. AMT is aligned to Muungano wa Wanavijiji (a federation of slum dwellers in Kenya) and other grassroots urban organizations.
Our People
AMT is overseen by a seven-member board of trustees and is supported by a professional secretariat comprising 15 dedicated staff members. The trust is proudly led by women, with both the Executive Director and the board’s chair being women.
